Children make sense of the world around them through real and first hand experiences and it is therefore important to recognise that the process of a child’s learning is as important as the content, i.e. what a child learns. Our nursery setting provides many opportunities to promote each child’s development.

Our planning reflects closely the Curricular Guidance for Pre-School Education (2005) which is divided into 6 areas of learning:

  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development
  • Language Development
  • The Arts
  • Physical Development and Movement
  • The World Around us
  • Early Mathematical Experiences

These areas are taught in a holistic way through the experiences children have and activities they engage in. The curriculum not only facilitates the development of skills, knowledge and understanding, but is also concerned with the promotion of sound relationships, attitudes and self-discipline, as reflected in the aims previously stated.

Parents are encourage to view the weekly/monthly planning sheets that outline the activities and learning intentions. These are placed on the planning board each week.
